Course Information

Course: ASRT Authored Courses, Magnetic Resonance Imaging

Module: MR Basics Module 2: Equipment and Instrumentation

Module Description: br>Audience: MR Technologists
Prerequisites: None
Can you define gauss and tesla? Learn these important units of measurement as well as the functionality of the shim system in this interactive module. Colorful animations and illustrations clearly demonstrate the major components and functionality of MR equipment, the properties of magnetism and the three basic types of magnets.

MR Basics: Equipment and Instrumentation is the second in a series of 10 interactive modules that include the topics found in the ASRT MR curriculum.

You can buy the complete MR Basics curriculum totaling 13 CE credits or purchase any of the 10 modules separately. After successful completion of all 10 modules, you will receive a recognition of achievement award from the ASRT.

Learning Objective
Upon completion of this module, the participant will be able to:
• Identify the major hardware components in magnetic resonance (MR) imaging.
• Understand magnetism and magnetic properties.
• Define gauss and tesla.
• Describe the 3 basic types of magnets.
• Discuss the differences in low-, mid-, high- and ultra-high field systems.
• Explain the functionality of the shim system in MR imaging.
